I have so much to share about my long weekend in the city! It was a wonderful weekend with my older sister Christina; we ate, drank, shopped and just enjoyed being together again.
On my first morning in New York, I took this little guy for a walk through Central Park while Christina did some work.
The whole time I was walking through the park, I imagined a Law + Order: SVU episode playing out in my head, even though it was broad daylight. I have very overprotective parents.
Christina eventually met up with me and Habibi (the pup) and we headed to Zabar’s. I feel like it was a quintessential New York morning. Walking a dog thru Central Park followed by a doughy bagel and a strong cup of coffee?
A girl could get used to this!

It’s no secret that North Market is one of my favorite things about Columbus. Recently, I’ve found myself there for Market to Market and for a few quick meals. A new reason to frequent North Market has come up though, a monthly event they’ve termed Local Brews + Local Foods. Sounds like something I can get behind for sure.
So basically, on the last Wednesday of every month for the summer, NM is featuring live music, Columbus Brewing Company beer on tap, and samples of a local Columbus food.
It just can’t be beat!

Well, I’ve been slacking. But for good reasons. I’ve just been out and about (and studying ew) so much the past week, that I haven’t had much time to blog. There’s some stuff I really want to blog about, but I’m currently running late for the airport and need to pack still! I’m off to NYC for the weekend to visit my super fabulous older sister. She’s so New York, it’s not even funny. I’m not bringing my computer, so I don’t think I’ll be blogging until I get back next week. Once I’m back, expect lots of fun NYC related posts, as well as a few catch up posts from this past week in the ‘bus.
With that said, I’m going to leave you with a few pictures from the past few days.. just a taste of all the fun stuff I’ve been up to.
My sister Mary (in the middle) sent me this picture the other day. Our personalities haven’t changed much in the past 10 years.
Free ice coffee refills at Starbucks are a freaking lifesaver when it comes to studying anatomy + molecular genetics.
Columbus Brewing Company’s Summer Teeth = best summer beer ever. Enjoyed on the patio at North Market.
Fresh flowers in bloom all over the place – so cheap too!
Scored some great deals at the Nordstrom half-yearly sale. Get there! It lasts until Saturday.
I couldn’t make it through a post without some talk of food! This is Rob’s sandwich from Brown Bag Deli in German Village. It’s turkey, cranberry sauce and a slice of cheese grilled up. Basically, Thanksgiving on a sandwich. So yummy!

So Ohio State is one of the biggest universities in the country. Obviously, we have some great perks that other smaller colleges and universities just don’t have because of size/demand.
One of those perks is D-Tix, or discount tickets. Basically, all sorts of attractions like museums, restaurants, comedy clubs, theme parks, etc. tickets are available to students at a really discounted price. Since I have an extensive bucket list that is growing by the day, scooping up some of these tickets on the cheap was just what I needed.
Tiffany and I ended up waiting in line for about an hour, but in my mind it was worth it. I didn’t really have much else to be doing, and I got some great deals.
- 2 tickets to Shadowbox – $5 each
- 4 tickets to Funnybone Comedy Club – $3 each
- 2 tickets to the Columbus Museum of Art – free!
- 2 $25 restaurant gift cards for $15 each
So in total, I spent $46 for $250 worth of stuff. All of these things are on my bucket list, so in my opinion, the hour and $46 were very well spent! I just wish I had taken advantage of d-tix before the end of my senior year!
If any OSU students are reading this, the tickets go on sale every Thursday afternoon at 5pm on the first floor of the Ohio Union.

Another dreary Wednesday here in Columbus. Instead of wallowing in rainy misery, I decided to make this hump day awesome. Here’s my list of today’s hump day treats.
1. Midweek brunch at Tasi with Bethany and Courtney. Delicious break between classes. My favorite place to get a cappuccino, Tasi uses Illy espresso.
Yeahhh baby! I won a ticket to the Apron Gala! Courtesy of the one and only CMH Gourmand! His was the first Columbus based food blog I ever read, and it is one of my go-to blogs for honest opinions and hearing about Columbus foodie events.
3. Digging through old emails and realizing I have yet to use some groupons that were purchased months ago! I found one for a mani/pedi that I scheduled for Friday morning, and other for a dozen cupcakes from Bakery Gingham, a local sweet shop that has been on my bucket list for a few months. I sent out a text to my roommates to let them know that there was a little hump day treat waiting for them at home too!

Today’s adventure was to Impero Coffee in the Short North. It has been super gloomy all day, and I decided I needed an afternoon pick me up. Impero has been on my bucket list only a short while, but I knew that today was going to be the day to try it out. A creamy espresso drink and desert was on my mind as I hopped on the COTA bus with Bethany. When we arrived at Impero, I was pleasantly surprised. It was small and only one person was working, but this isn’t Starbucks. This is more of a sit and do some work, come enjoy an afternoon over a good book or chat with a friend kind of place. The menu was expansive, offering all types of coffee, espresso and tea based beverages.
I know the picture is fuzzy, but on the espresso menu, there are color coded cups to tell you how much milk, foam, and espresso is in each drink. I thought it was genius! Even though I’m an avid coffee drinker, it was nice to actually see the difference between a breve, a latte, and a macchiato.
I ordered a con panna, which from the menu above is a shot of espresso topped with whipped cream. I’d never had one before, but I can say with confidence that I will be drinking more of these in the future! The bitter espresso mingled perfectly with the ultra rich whipped cream to form a perfect, balanced sip. I also got a piece of baklava because I like to enjoy a sweet treat with an afternoon coffee. It was meh, I mean nothing can compare to a homemade piece of baklava straight from Nana’s oven!
I have to say, I really enjoyed that my drink was served in a mug. Since I usually grab a latte on my way to class, I drink out of a paper to go cup. There’s just something so much nicer about drinking from a real mug. (I made us pose for these cheesy shots of us sipping our drinks…the things I do for this blog)
Impero Coffee is really cozy place, and I can’t wait to go back. It was the perfect way to spend a gray, rainy afternoon.
