Great Couples

They say great minds think alike, right?

Well, today Rob came to pick me up for a lunch date and we realized that we had inadvertently dressed in the same outfit! (We didn’t change, either!)

Great couples think alike I suppose 😉

Nida’s Thai on High

June 18, 2011 § Leave a comment

I spent all of today doing nothing except reading The Help on the couch. When Rob called me after his long day at work asking me about dinner, I knew there was no way I was going to cook, and it was one of those rare times where I didn’t feel like eating in a restaurant either.

Enter: takeout.

Nida's 001

I had been thinking of an occasion to try Nida’s Thai, a restaurant on my bucket list, and tonight seemed to be perfect. Lucky for me, Rob didn’t care what we ordered, so I got to choose the two dishes for us to share.

We split Sriracha fried rice with beef and chicken Pad Thai. Both dishes were tasty, but I preferred the Pad Thai. It had a perfect mix of textures, chewy noodles, crisp peanuts and bean sprouts, and the sauce was the best pad thai sauce I’ve ever tasted. I loved that it wasn’t overly peanutty like some other pad thai I’ve tasted. The fried rice was pretty basic, but the addition of sriracha sauce gave it a nice kick.

This meal definitely left a great impression on me + Rob. We can’t wait to give Nida’s a try again!

Rob’s belated bday

Do you recognize either of these walls?

If you do… then you know Rob and I celebrated his birthday at Betty’s!

You also know that Rob & I took pictures of the men’s & lady’s bathrooms. Is that weird?

I for one, LOVE interesting bathrooms. I always think it’s neat when a restaurant takes pride in every inch of their design. I have seen many notable bathrooms in Columbus (Haiku strikes me right off the top) but Betty’s is my favorite. There is just so much character! I remember the first time Rob & I ate at Betty’s about two years ago, he ducked into the men’s room and came back telling me I just had to check out the lady’s to see if it was just as cool. It was.

Anyway, moving on.

We went around 10-10:30 pm and were so happy to see that Betty’s kitchen is open late. Rob had a late lunch with his mom earlier in the afternoon, so we just decided to split some appetizers. We got a corn salsa quesadilla with chicken and Steve’s Afternoon delight which was homemade potato chips (ummm I could LIVE off these. SO.GOOD.) with some cheesy sauce, sour cream, tomatoes, and onions. Both were yummy, but literally I am still thinking of those chips. I don’t know what was in the cheese sauce, I actually told Rob I didn’t want to know because it would only ruin my enjoyment.

I’d just like to see these wonderful cell phone pictures come courtesy of my Blackberry and “assistant” Rob who so graciously made me a light bounce out of his napkin. He is a true supporter of my blogging. 🙂

I shouldn’t have made fun of that napkin, because in the picture he took of me, I don’t seem to have a nose …

All in all, Betty’s is one of our favorite places to eat or grab a quick drink in Columbus. We have tried tons of stuff there; Green goddess salad, Betty’s Beer Brats, Veggie Egg Rolls, and Marge’s Meatloaf all come to mind, and they have all been perfect. Surly Girl, which owned by the same woman as Betty’s, it’s on the bucket list and hopefully I’ll be heading there soon…I don’t know if it can beat out Betty’s, but I can’t wait to put the two sister restaurants to the test!

Cafe Corner

After classes, the gym, and a less than stellar visit with my advisor, I decided I needed to enjoy some of the sunshine with the guy who always knows how to put a smile on my face. Rob just finished two challenging midterms and was in need of a relaxing lunch too, so we consulted the bucket list and decided on Cafe Corner. It turned out to be a great choice. The cafe is a small, locally owned joint that has a huge menu and serves breakfast all day. The interior is funky and has tons of personality. There isn’t much space to dine inside, but they do have a large patio area that gets tons of sunlight and will be great for the warmer months.

I had a bowl of amazinggg veggie chili – some of the best I’ve ever had! I also got a little salad which was chock full of fresh lettuces and salty feta. Rob got the Swiss + artichoke sandwich, which was filled with bacon + horseradish. No words, it was just SO good!

On the drive back home, Rob and I spotted the Columbus Segway tour! It’s also on my bucket list, so seeing them in action really got me excited! I’ve gotta get tickets soon.

My friend Bethany started a blog!! I’m sooo excited … she’s my main PIC for accomplishing/adding to the Columbus Bucket List. She was born and raised here, and she knows our city well. Check her out here at Beer, Bites & Buckeyes!
