Here in Columbus, fireworks for 4th of July are a big deal.
The city puts on an amazing display called Red, White & Boom! Last night, I headed downtown with friends to watch the show, and it was one of the best fireworks displays I’ve ever seen.
I seriously LOVE long weekends. There is just something so relaxing about knowing I have an extra day to get my weekend tasks accomplished. Since this is a holiday weekend, it’s even better because good food, good friends, and sparklers are involved!

I know in many parts of the country, eating street food from a truck has been popular for decades. However, this trend has only recently caught on in Columbus. But has it caught on! Everything from crepes, to grilled cheese, to tacos and now, cupcakes can be found on the street being sold from a truck.
Today, Tiffany and I tried cupcakes from Three Babes and a Baker, who were parked at the campus farmer’s market at 15th and High.
They came packaged in the cute little Chinese take out boxes.
We split a Buckeye cupcake and an Oreo cupcake. Both were tasty, but not the best I’ve ever had.
Having come from a truck though, they left me pleasantly surprised and ready to tackle more food truck tastings. Like this one, next week!

Last time I was home, I went into my favorite local boutique and couldn’t help but notice one of the books they had on display.
Curious, I flipped it open.
Just as I suspected, nothing.
This book literally made me laugh out loud. Rob and I have been together for almost 8 years, and I’m sure he would agree with me, that sometimes, we know nothing about the opposite sex.

Or, alternatively titled: the time I got tricked into doing crossfit.
If you’re not familiar with crossfit, you can read about it here. I saw a few youtube videos of the crossfit games once, and wanted to puke just watching the workouts they do.
Don’t get me wrong, I love to break a sweat! There’s nothing like going for a great 3-4 mile run or having a great weights session or even a pilates class.
Anyway, this class was FREE at the new Columbus Commons, a park just south of the state building downtown. I was excited and expected it to be like other boot camp classes I’d tried in the past, but it wasn’t. It was a “bootcamp” run by a crossfit gym located downtown. I think it’s awesome that the city and that gym are working together to provide free fitness classes to the people of Columbus. Definitely a step in the right direction for public health initiatives.
A lot of people came down, and most people seemed to really enjoy the workout. However, I hated it. There wasn’t much direction, and it was just a hardcore athlete’s style of workout. I prefer someone telling me exactly how many reps we have left of each move, or at least knowing the layout of what’s to come in the class. This was a guided warm-up, then the instructor said “Okay now repeat XYZ for 20 minutes.” I almost would have preferred being yelled at.
I have to be totally honest… a big reason why I didn’t enjoy this workout is because it was outside on freshly cut grass. We were doing squats, pushups, and burpees, so I was covered in grass, dirt and bugs. Oh, and it was drizzling rain.
So I’m really glad that I went and tried something new, but I just don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon. I need air conditioning, my ipod, or at the very least, a sweat towel!

With my time left in Columbus dwindling, it’s time to get serious about the Bucket List.
Last night, Rob and I decided that we would tackle something on the list today, which brings us to breakfast at German Village Coffee Shop.
It’s in German Village (obviously) located right next to Bakery Gingham and Thurman’s for any Columbus readers.
It’s a very small, old school diner, serving up typical greasy spoon food. When we walked in to give our name, there was a huge crowd with every seat filled and the smell of bacon was permeating the air. We knew we were in for a good meal.
After a short wait, we got seats right in front of the grill, which provided some entertainment while we waited for our breakfasts. More entertainment came from the placemats, which were full of trivia questions. Rob and I had fun reading the questions to each other, even though we didn’t know many of the answers.
After waiting for a good amount of time, we finally got our food. I got a blueberry pancake and a veggie omelet. Both were great! I love a good blueberry pancake, this one had warm, fresh blueberries that burst open with every bite. The omelet was typical diner fare, greasy, hot and delicious.
Rob and I both enjoyed our breakfasts and were really happy that we got out and tried a new place!

My best friend Katie is moving to California next week. Not only that, but just a few weeks ago she graduated and got engaged! Talk about major life changes going on, huh? Katie and I have been friends since the very first day of first grade, and here we are, at the end of our college careers, still great friends. I love the way our friendship has evolved over the years.
Tonight was her going away party, and I’m still in shock/so excited for her that it’s all really happening! I mean, just a few years ago we were just kids talking about “when we grow up…” but that’s NOW! So weird. Anyway, tonight was a nice little send off for her with some close friends. We talked about everything from graduating and jobs, to her move and upcoming wedding. Since her fiance is in the Navy and will be deploying again early next year, the wedding is being planned for December! I’m so excited because she has asked me to be a bridesmaid! And she’s letting me plan the bachelorette… Vegas is only a few hours from San Diego, riiiiiiight? 😉
